Etched in Bone (Early Review - Expected publication: March 7th 2017 by Roc)

Etched in Bone (The Others, #5)Etched in Bone by Anne Bishop
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved this so much!
Ok, so first of all I never thought there'd be another series that could come close to competing with my beloved Mercy Thompson stories, but Meg Corbyn and The Others have captivated me just as much. Especially the relationship between Meg and Simon, which is a pairing I ship hard! lol
My other favorite thing in this one is The Elders. They're creepy and terrifying, and all that you want far away from the main characters you love, and yet as a reader you feel your own curiosity piqued and searching for them. So getting a bit more about them and how they interact was fun.
And then there is "that Cyrus", officer Montgomery's no-good brother. Cyrus is a perfect rendering of all the crappy and jailbird type people I've ever met, and his presence affects the courtyard in more ways than The Others could have anticipated. I never like a spoiler so I can't say how all these moving parts tie together but I enjoyed every page of it, and I can not recommend this series enough! It has shifters, intuit, and clairvoyants, humans, simple life folks, Elders, and vampires, and all of them mixing together trying to figure out how to co-exist on an alternate universe that still shares enough similarities with the earth we readers live in that it doesn't feel so foreign. Relationships build slowly too, and we get to learn the personalities of characters in a real-time feel, which makes the tiniest steps towards friendship and neighbor between humans and terra indigene have that much more of a payoff.
If you're a Mercy Thompson fan you should definitely read this one.
